FUERTEVENTURA'S GOLF
COURSES
TO DATE THERE ARE 4 GOLF COURSES OPEN ON THE ISLAND AND HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ON THEM:-
FUERTEVENTURA GOLF RESORT - This the first and original Golf Course , home of our Villa Golf Breeze. Golf is a very popular sport on Fuerteventura. We are fortunate to have a really excellent courses in Caleta de Fuste, which hosted the Spanish Open in 2004. Quite an achievement for a course which only opened in Spring 2002. Despite Fuerteventura's almost constant sunshine and little rain, the golf course has beautiful greens. The winds provide a challenge for all golfers. The golf course also boasts a 5 star clubhouse, the Elba Palace Golf Resort Hotel, which also has a pro shop, a resident PGA professional, a driving range, chipping area, practice bunker and putting green.
The high season is between September and April and the price of 18 holes is approx €60.00. You can also play 9 holes at approx price of €45.00. prices change yearly so please use these figures as a guide price only. Golf cart hire is €25.00 and set of clubs will cost about €15-€20.00. There are no twilight prices at this course at present.
LAS SALINAS GOLF COURSE - Opened in 2006 and conveniently located next door to Fuerteventura Golf Resort. 18-hole course with very nice greens and few tricky water hazards and doglegs. Fees there in high season start from €65.00 per 18 holes, cart is about €25.00 and trolley €2.00 Set of clubs is €20.00. There is a nice restaurant on site however the hotel has not yet been built. The twilight fee starts at 3 p.m. and will cost you only €35.00 so well worth the wait.
LAS PLAITAS Golf Course -located in the south of the Island about 25 minutes drive from the villa. To get there you need to head south and take the road marked to Gran Tarajal. At present only 6 holes are open so it is more like an Academy course, excellent for beginners or as a practice course however the full course is scheduled to open at the end of 2008. There is a brand new Hotel there and first Olympic pool complex and Spa has opened there in March 2008. 6 holes cost only €15.00 and you can buy a variety of tickets which will allow you to pay one fee but spread your play over a week.
JANDIA GOLF COURSE - The first course opened on the South of the Island. It is tricky to find. You need to drive towards COSTA CALMA and JANDIA. when you get to Costa Calma look out for a roundabout with a sculpture with a sail pointing towards the coast. A this roundabout turn LEFT. There will be some signs from there for "Golf tees" leading you towards a hotel. you will need to pay the fees at the hotel at present as the GOLF Clubhouse has not as yet been set up. Then you need to head left up the road from the hotel and you will finally see the golf course. There are no golf carts for rental , trolleys and walking only I am afraid and it is not an easy course to walk. The course is challenging with narrow greens and gorges. The whole course is located in a valley and the wind adds to the difficulty factor. Well worth a try. 18 holes will set you back €70.00 in high season.
